Free N Losh Provoke Nostalgic Feelings With "Kill My Lonely"

“Kill My Lonely” is Toronto-based production duo Free N Losh‘s latest touchdown. The song evokes a timeless human experience: falling in love. The song features confident vocals from Spotify-anointed artist to watch Allan Rayman, who sings about yearning for company. And certain lines, like, Someone come and kill my lonely/ I’ll kill all my words all for you only, stir up adolescent anxieties, as does the the ticking alarm clock at the start of the song.

“Allan brought us out to Lost Springs [ed. note: this is code for “a secret space”] to work on a project,” wrote Free n Losh in an email to The FADER about the song’s origins. “We spent a weekend with good food, good drink, and good company. When it was all said and done, this record is what we were left with.”

Hear A New Collaboration Between Dev Hynes, Wiki, and Sporting Life

Dev Hynes, Wiki, and Sporting Life teamed up on a song titled “Lord’s Mess” which appears in Letter Racer’s latest clip, an homage to New York City skateboarding. The visual was shot by Emilio Cuilan, Samuel Puglia, and Matt Lubansky. (Lubansky also filmed Wiki’s recent video for “Crib Tax”.)

“Lord’s Mess” builds around a crisp beat and squeaky horn work. Dev Hynes contributes his typical sugary melodies, and Wiki brings his quintessentially New York tone to the mix: Gotta lotta shit I gotta say/ I gotta pray/ But God don’t talk to me/ I oughta be an alter boy honestly. Onyx Collective and Show me the Body also add music to the clip.

Check out the video above, and revisit Sporting Life’s FADER interview.

Listen To Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s Enchanting New Single “Arthropoda”

You might not be super familiar with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith‘s name but you might’ve heard her sound design work in the outro of Panda Bear‘s “Boys Latin” video. Over the past two years, the Washington native has released two albums of ambient electronic music on Western Vinyl and is now gearing up to put out her third, titled EARS. Standout single “Arthopoda” is like an enchanting maze: Smith uses a Buchla synthesizer to create an amazing array of electronic sounds that conjure up forest-like imagery for her voice to get lost in.

“In recording EARS, my intention was to take audiences on a sonic motion ride through a futuristic jungle,” Smith told The FADER over email. “I am inspired by the works of Moebius and Miyazaki—in particular the film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind—I wanted to play with visceral sounds that pull one between feelings of beauty and dissonance, chaos and order. My hope is that, on a straight-through listen, in a darkened room, on a loud stereo, EARS will inspire a rich visual narrative in listeners’ minds.”

Western Vinyl will release EARS is in April. Catch Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith on tour with Animal Collective this February (tickets).

This text was amended on 1/26/16 to reflect the fact Smith’s sound design for Panda Bear was for one specific video, “Boys Latin.”

El Guincho Defies Gravity In CANADA-Directed "Comix" Video

The last we heard of Spanish musician El Guincho, he was remixing songs for Björk. Now he’s back jacking people’s jackets and grabbing eggs out of boiling water with his bare hands in the hyperactive video to his new single “Comix.”

With his third album, Hiperasia, around the corner, the Barcelona-based musician tapped Tame Impala director CANADA to bring to life the visual equivalent of a song that could be used for the backdrop of an animated space travel video game.

“‘Comix’ started with a beat I sent María (Mala Rodriguez) in 2015,” El Guincho told The FADER over email. “It was on a folder with a few other sketches I recorded for her. I stumbled on it that summer and really digged it. I improvised my bars using a sort of obsolete rhyme structure, trying to fit the lyrics into a rigid scheme, rhyming with the letter ‘i’ can feel a little uncomfortable in Spanish, but keeping it fresh and a bit cocky too. I sent it to María and she recorded a great melody, very versatile, that allowed me to modify the harmony and make the song catchier while keeping the structure weird—something that felt like a radio freestyle, which is the way I conceived the song the first time.”

Nacional Records will release Hiperasia on February 12.

12 Collections We Loved From The European Menswear Shows

As Paris, Milan, and London’s Men’s Fashion Weeks are eclipsed by haute couture, we thought it was time to look back, and recap the good, the bad, the ugly-beautiful, and the super strange. From Thom Browne’s bizarre Great Depression-themed presentation to Pigalle’s Wes Anderson-esque pastels; here’s everything we loved from the last few weeks. New York, you’re next.

After one year of serving as the helm of Gucci, Alessandro Michele unveiled his breakout collection for the Italian mogul brand. For this collection, Michele went unabashedly bold—aka back to the roots of Gucci. Describing his work as a “collage,” the Fall/Winter ‘16 collection consists of loud gingham and floral patterns, as well as sleek, well tailored trousers and the iconic Gucci loafer.

Virgil Abloh’s come a long way in the fashion industry since being know as the “Pyrex guy.” With his Off-White brand’s F/W ’16 collection, titled “YOU CUT ME OFF,” Abloh takes inspiration from spatial art pioneer, Lucio Fontana. Although Off-White’s signature slashing logo still adorns the backs and sleeves of several garments, Virgil took a relatively safe approach for this collection Oversized bombers, tailored peacoats, and plaid patterns make up an Off-White collection that’s surprisingly tame.

For Gosha Rubchinskiy Fall/Winter ’16 showing, the beloved Moscow designer stuck to his roots. Pale-skinned models walked the runway in the high-waisted pants and tucked-in shirts combo that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing from Gosha. Oversized leather jackets and sweaters emblazoned in Russian words made appearances, surely to please Rubchinskiy’s rapidly growing cult-like following.

As a follow up to last season’s “human backpack” runway show, Rick Owens’ Paris Fashion Week was slightly less disturbing. Citing the 1960’s Italian horror flick, Eyes Without A Face, as an influence, Owens definitely took a turn for the spooky. White face makeup slathered on the faces of the models matched well with freakishly elongated mohair sweaters dripping white paint. However a set of exceptionally tailored trenchcoats definitely stole the show, and reminded the audience that Owens is first and foremost, a master of his craft.

For Fall/Winter ‘16, the British brand unveiled a sleek collection of menswear that combines elements of sportswear with the more traditional English styles. A runway display of exceptionally made shearling coats, tracksuit tops, leather jackets, and overcoats all layered over nylon and neoprene trousers. Surely one of the best collections displayed in Milan this season.

Heralded as one of fashion’s most exciting young talents, J.W. Anderson is worth all the hype. The London-based designer has already accumulated quite a fan base: A$AP Rocky sits front row, and he’s backed by behemoth LVMH. For his Fall/Winter menswear collection, the young designer rolled out lots of knee-reaching cardigans, smooth satin blazers, and rabbit fur jacket. Snails pervaded the collection, but Anderson insists there’s no meaning behind that, saying, “symbols don’t need to make sense.” Keep the world guessing, Anderson, you’re doing great.

For the acclaimed Japanese designer’s Fall/Winter ’16 collection, Junya Watanabe presented a collection that both tipped its hat to British mod fashion while simultaneously looking to the future. The male models for Watanabe’s runway show walked down in aggressive bowlcuts and solar panels on the back of jackets were a nice touch. The collection consisted of a large variety of exceptionally tailored trenchcoats, double-breasted blazers, and color-blocked denim trousers.

For his showing, Simons drew inspiration from spooky cultural touchstones like David Lynch’s Twin Peaks and Cindy Sherman’s “Untitled Horrors.”The Belgian designer stuck with his signature oversized motif; supersizing distressed cardigans and sweater vests. It was a collection that did Simons’ fashion outsider status true justice.

As with all his runway shows, Thom Browne, took a turn for the conceptual. Browne wove a theatrical tale of 13 men during the Great Depression, crafting a collection of distressed formalwear to match. Plaid, stripes, and checkers patterns all made appearances in both pristine and deconstructed variations. Plus, in case you didn’t notice—everyone wore bowler hats on their faces.

After the terrorist attacks on Paris in November, Rei Kawakubo paid her respects to the city through Comme Des Garçons Fall/Winter runway show, aptly titled “Armour of Peace.” Flowers adorned the models’ heads, and they cradled bouquets in their arms. Outerwear pieces with samurai detailing took cues from Kawakubo’s native Japan.

Stéphane Ashpoole has become somewhat of a mayor in the Parisian arrondissement of Pigalle, for which his signature line is named. For his tenth collection, the enigmatic designer took it upon himself gathered his close friends and the residents of the Pigalle to model a courageous men’s collection. Crafted in a soft color palette of baby blues, peaches, roses, and lilacs, Ashpoole’s “Eros” Fall/Winter ’16 seems as if it came straight out of a Wes Anderson film.

12. Walter Van Beirendonck

Crafting a collection that seemed pulled from a dystopian wonderland, Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck’s Fall/Winter showing was all kinds of weird. Eccentric animal prints, deconstructed jackets, wide-legged pants, and incredible facial adornmentsall played integral parts. Luxe fabrics like patent leather and suede played a large part in Beirendonck’s showing, but a series of jackets adorned with dolls really lent a mystical aura.

Young Thug On Kanye West: He’s "Like <i>50 Shades Of Grey</i>"

Young Thug announced yesterday that he’s planning to release a new mixtape at the end of next week. He followed that today with a lengthy interview on Sway In The Morning. Topics covered include his disputes, past and present, with Plies, the Game, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Wayne.

The conversation turns to Kanye West around the 17-minute mark. “Kanye’s like 50 Shades of Grey. He’s interesting. You want to be like, ‘I want to be around him, let’s see.’ He’s interesting and he’s really into music, he really is. He don’t interview you or nothin,’ he’s just like, ‘come on, listen to these beats, listen to these songs, I might put these out.’ He lets you just—he opens up fast… I think he’s a guy almost every man would want to be, or would want to be like, or would want to be in that direction, including me. He’s cool, caring. He has a real work ethic. If I was in his position, I’d still work, but I wouldn’t work as hard as him. He work[s] every day like he’s an upcoming rapper. He’s serious.”

Sway then asked Thug if he’s planning a collaborative project with Kanye. (Thug’s collaborator Be El Be recently hinted in since-deleted tweets that Thug might appear on SWISH.) “He made me sign some kind of papers, so I don’t know if I can tell,” Thug said with a laugh. “Me and him got something going on. Of course. A lot of things going on.”

Look for Slime Season 3 February 5.

Blac Chyna — Look How I Keep Rob Kardashian in the Gym (VIDEO)

Rob Kardashian put on his best pair of Yeezys and hit the gym with his girl, Blac Chyna — and then she showed us exactly how she got him to work out in the first place.

BC posted a clip … first from the kitchen — looks like breakfast — and then from the gym. You can clearly hear a guy in the background the whole time.

Our first clue it’s Rob — the guy’s wearing Yeezys, the official footwear of Kardashian-Jenners everywhere. Also, the bird’s-eye view of Chyna’s boobs while she’s on the elliptical is a dead giveaway. For the record, she’s not showing a bit … yet.

Get it, Rob!
