Apple finally brought its podcast app to the new Apple TV

As part of the latest update for the new Apple TV, the company has finally brought its podcast app to the set-top box. It was a strange oversight as a podcast app has been available on older Apple TVs for years, but somehow was left off the newer, more expensive, more powerful Apple TV.

The podcast app was initially a part of the tvOS 9.2 beta, but Apple saw it fit to release it early in today’s release of tvOS 9.1.1. The tvOS 9.2 update will bring Bluetooth keyboard support, folders, and an updated app switcher when it’s released to the public later this year. The rest of this update is mainly minor bug fixes, but if you own an Apple TV and have been hankering to hear some of your favorite podcasts — possibly some of ours! — through…

Watch a five-minute samurai epic from the creator of cult classic The Raid

Gareth Evans’ The Raid is considered an action movie cult classic, showcasing some of the most brilliant and brutal fight scenes in any martial arts film. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, that movie’s influence (alongside Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy) can be felt in Netflix’s Daredevil, which on its own featured what might be the best single-shot fight scene ever filmed for television. So fans of Evans’ might be thrilled to know the director is still hard at work making movies. He even uploaded a five-minute-long short film to YouTube today just to show he still has an eye for good action.

The short, titled Pre Vis Action, is a samurai epic set during a time of civil war. A young warrior has been sent off to deliver a treaty to one of two…

Miley Cyrus is going to star in Woody Allen’s Amazon TV series

Woody Allen’s upcoming Amazon comedy series still doesn’t have a title or a release date, but it has a few unexpected stars on its cast list. Deadline is reporting that Miley Cyrus — yes, that Miley Cyrus — is going to headline the show alongside Elaine May and Allen himself when shooting begins in March. Cyrus has spent the last half-decade focusing on music save a few cameo appearances and Saturday Night Live gigs; May last acted in Allen’s slight 2000 crime comedy Small Time Crooks. Deadline also notes the show will span six episodes, all set in the 1960s. Allen is still writing and directing every episode, par for the course considering his extensive written-and-directed filmography. (He’s still planning on releasing a movie this…

This is Microsoft’s iPhone keyboard

Microsoft is bringing its Windows Phone keyboard to iOS. The software giant is currently testing an early version of the keyboard internally, and will make it available to public testers soon. Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have revealed to The Verge that the iOS keyboard includes a special one-handed mode.

While the Windows 10 Mobile keyboard also has a one-handed mode, Microsoft’s iOS version is different. The one-handed mode works on each side, allowing you to use either hand to swipe letters or type on the go. Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile keyboard simply shifts to the side to create a compact keyboard, instead of the fanned key layout used in the iOS version.

Sprint lays off 2,500 employees, largely from customer service

Sprint has laid off at least 2,500 people, with most of the positions coming from customer service call centers throughout the US, according to Reuters. The layoffs mean that Sprint is completely shutting down four of its call centers, while another two will be scaled back. Customer service jobs account for close to 2,000 of the cut positions, with the remainder coming from positions at Sprint’s headquarters. Sprint had 33,000 employees total at the beginning of the year.

The layoffs have been expected for a while now. After falling into fourth place in the wireless market, Sprint has been trying to dramatically cut costs, looking for ways to save $2.5 billion. Sprint’s parent company said several months ago that thousands of job cuts…

Brian Wilson is touring classic Beach Boys album Pet Sounds for the final time

Beach Boys leader and songwriter Brian Wilson is taking Pet Sounds, one of the most universally loved albums of all time, out on the road for a final tour. The upcoming dates span Europe, Asia, Australasia, and several venues in the US, and will mark the last times that Wilson plays the record in full, according to Pitchfork.

“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago,” Wilson says in a statement. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”

One of the greatest shows I ever saw was in early 2004, where Wilson performed his revisited version of Smile, the long-lost Pet Sounds follow-up, for the first time in public. Although I now…

Astronaut Scott Kelly joins Tumblr to post blizzard photos from space

Astronaut and social media aficionado Scott Kelly has joined Tumblr, and his first post is a stunning collection of storm photos captured from the International Space Station. Kelly included a rare shot of the blizzard that tore across the East Coast this past week in the gallery, noting in his post how it was “remarkably visible from space.”

Kelly has been tracking the blizzard on Twitter this past week, posting photos on Friday and Saturday showing the scope of the storm as it developed. His inaugural Tumblr post, titled “Chasing Storms at 17,500mph,” also includes some of the more breathtaking 2015 weather shots he’s captured from his post 250 miles above Earth.

This might be the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game yet

Licensed video games are a crapshoot: sometimes you get GoldenEye 007, sometimes you get Superman 64. And as a franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been on both sides, with fondly remembered NES and arcade titles, a surprisingly good Game Boy Advance TMNT tie-in, and, well, a relentless stream of generic garbage that’s left few consoles untouched.

There’s reason to be optimistic about the next release, though, and that’s because of its pedigree. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is being developed by PlatinumGames, the Japanese studio responsible for world-beatingly awesome action games like BayonettaMetal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Vanquish. From the trailer above, it looks like Mutants in Manhattan will…
